Speaker-Level Outputs: If you areusing the Speaker-Level Inputs on the SUB-TS10, you should connect thesebinding post terminals to your front left andright speakers, remembering to maintainpolarity by connecting the (+) terminal onthe SUB-TS10 subwoofer to the (+) termi-nal on the speaker, and the () terminal onthe SUB-TS10 subwoofer to the () terminalon the speaker. If you are not using theSpeaker-Level Inputs , then connectyour front left and right speakers directly toyour receiver or amplifier. See pages 6 and7 for further information. Line-Level Subwoofer (SUB) Input:Connect the subwoofer output of a receiverwith digital surround sound decoding, suchas Dolby* Digital or DTS, to this input.Thisinput bypasses the SUB-TS10s internalcrossover circuitry, and should only be usedwith a filtered signal. If your receiver doesnot have digital decoding, you should use theLine-Level Full-Range Inputs instead. Line-Level Full-Range Inputs: Con-nect the line-level subwoofer output or preamp output(s) of your receiver or amplifierto these inputs. If your receiver does not havea separate subwoofer output, use a Y-adaptor(not supplied) to bridge the receivers preampoutput to the main amp input for that chan-nel,and connect the long end of the adaptorto the corresponding line-level input on theSUB-TS10.If your receiver has only a singlesubwoofer output, you may connect it toeither the left or right line-level input on theSUB-TS10,and no Y-adaptor is needed. If the speakers were toplay out of phase, the sound waves pro-duced by the subwoofer would be cancelledout, reducing bass response. This phenome-non depends in part on the relative place-ment of the speakers in the room. In mostcases, the Phase Switch should be leftin the NORMAL position. However, itdoes no harm to experiment with thePhase Switch , and you may leave it in the position that maximizes bassresponse. High-Cut (Low-Pass) Filter Switch:Placing this switch in the ON position acti-vates circuitry that cuts out all audio inputsignals above 120Hz.This allows the SUB-TS10 to focus its power on reproducing thelow-frequency portion of the signal, avoid-ing inefficiency and distortion. Engage thisfilter when using the Speaker-LevelInputs , or when using the Line-LevelFull-Range Inputs , unless your receiveror processor processes its line-level outputusing a low-pass filter. The filter has noeffect when the SUB Input is used. Music-Sense On/Off Switch:Whenplaced in the AUTO position, and when theMaster Power Switch is turned on,theSUB-TS10 will automatically turn itself on orplace itself in the Standby mode, dependingon whether it is receiving an audio signal. When this switch is placed in the ON posi-tion,the SUB-TS10 will remain on,whether ornot it is receiving an audio signal. Filter Remote Control Input: Thisinput accepts a remote control signal froma compatible Harman Kardon A/V receiverthat enables you to override the High-Cut(Low-Pass) Filter Switch , by signal-ing the SUB-TS10 to engage the filter evenwhen the switch is in the OFF position. LED Indicator: This LED indicateswhether the SUB-TS10 is in the ON orSTANDBY state when used with theMusic-Sense On/Off Switch in theAUTO position. The LED is lit Green toindicate that the SUB-TS10 is receiving an audio signal and is turned on, and theLED is lit Red to indicate that no signal isbeing received and the SUB-TS10 is inStandby mode. When the Music-Sense On/Off Switch is in the ON position, the LED will be litGreen, whether or not an audio signal ispresent. When the Master Power Switch isturned off, the LED goes dark, no matterwhich position the Music-Sense On/OffSwitch is in. Subwoofer-Level Control: Volumecan be adjusted using the Subwoofer-Level Control.Turn the control clockwiseto increase the SUB-TS10s volume, orcounterclockwise to decrease it. Master Power Switch: Place thisswitch in the “” position to power-on theSUB-TS10 subwoofer. The SUB-TS10 willthen be either in the Standby mode or completely on, depending on the positionof the Music-Sense On/Off Switch . AC Power Cord: Make sure to plugthis cord into an active, unswitched electri-cal outlet for proper operation of the SUB-TS10.The cord should not be plugged intothe accessory outlets found on some audiocomponents.4 HKTS 10 harman/kardonDolby Digital or DTS (or otherDigital Surround Mode)ConnectionUSE THIS INSTALLATION METHOD FORDOLBY DIGITAL, DTS OR OTHER DIGITALSURROUND PROCESSORS:Use the line-level input jack marked SUB for the Low-Frequency Effects channel.Connect this jack to the subwoofer outputor LFE output on your receiver or amplifier.Connect each speaker to the correspondingspeaker terminals on your receiver or amplifier.Make sure that you have configured yoursurround sound processor for “SubwooferOn. ” The front left, front right, center andrear surround speakers should all be set to“Small. ”When all connections have been made, plugthe AC power cord on the subwoofer intoan AC outlet.LINELEVELINLRSUBReceiverSUB/LFE OutFrontLeftSurroundLeftFrontRightSurroundRightCenterSurroundRightFrontRightSurroundLeftFrontLeftCenter + + + + +SPEAKER CONNECTIONS (continued)5 HKTS 10 harman/kardonSPEAKER CONNECTIONS (continued)6ReceiverSUB/LFE OutFrontLeftSurroundLeftFrontRightSurroundRightSUB-TS10SubwooferCenterLine-LevelLRSurroundRightFrontRightSurroundLeftFrontLeftCenter + + + + +Dolby Pro Logic (Non-Digital) Line LevelUSE THIS INSTALLATION METHOD FORDOLBY PRO LOGIC APPLICATIONS (NOTDOLBY DIGITAL, DTS OR OTHER DIGITALPROCESSING),WHERE THE RECEIVER/PROCESSOR IS EQUIPPED WITH A SUB-WOOFER OUTPUT, OR A VOLUME-CONTROLLED PREAMP (LINE-) LEVEL OUTPUT:Use the supplied RCA-type patch cord toconnect the line-level subwoofer output onyour receiveror amplifier to either the left orright Line-Level Full-Range Input onthe SUB-TS10 subwoofer.
