THXresulted from George Lucas desire to reproducethe movie soundtrack as faithfully as possible bothin the movie theater and in the home theater.THX engineers developed patented technologiesto accurately translate the sound from a movietheater environment into the home, correcting thetonal and spatial errors that occur.When the THX mode of the SR7500 is on, threedistinct THX technologies are automaticallyadded:Re-Equalization-restores the correct tonal balancefor watching a movie in a home environment.These sounds are otherwise mixed to be brighterfor a large movie theater. Re-EQ compensates forthis and prevents the soundtracks from beingoverly bright and harsh when played in a hometheater.Timbre Matching-filters the information going tothe surround speakers so they more closely matchthe tonal characteristics of the sound coming fromthe front speakers.This ensures seamless panning between the frontand surround speakers.Adaptive Decorrelation-slightly changes onesurround channels time and phase relationshipwith respect to the other surround channel.This expands the listening position and createswith only two surround speakers the samespacious surround experience as in a movietheater with multiple surround speakers.The Marantz SR7500 was required to pass arigorous series of quality and performance tests, inaddition to incorporating the technologiesexplained above, in order to be THX certified byLucasfilm Ltd.THX requirements cover every aspect ofperformance including pre-amplifier and poweramplifier performance and operation, andhundreds of other parameters in both the digitaland analog domain.Movies which have been encoded in Dolby Digital,DTS, Dolby Pro Logic, stereo and Mono will allbenefit from the THX mode when being viewed.The THX mode should only be activated whenwatching movies which were originally producedfor a movie theater environment.This is because they were originally mixed for asmall room environment.THX is a trademark or registered trademark of THXLtd.
