REPLACE THESECOMPONENTS WITH SONY PARTS WHOSE PART NUMBERS AP-PEAR AS SHOWN IN THIS MANUAL OR IN SUPPLEMENTS PUB-LISHED BY SONY.SAFETY CHECK-OUTAfter correcting the original service problem, perform the follow-ing safety checks before releasing the set to the customer:Check the antenna terminals, metal trim, “metallized” knobs, screws, and all other exposed metal parts for AC leakage.Check leakage as described below.LEAKAGE TESTThe AC leakage from any exposed metal part to earth ground andfrom all exposed metal parts to any exposed metal part having areturn to chassis, must not exceed 0.5 mA (500 microampers).Leakage current can be measured by any one of three methods.1. A commercial leakage tester, such as the Simpson 229 or RCAWT-540A. Follow the manufacturers instructions to use theseinstruments.2. A battery-operated AC milliammeter. The Data Precision 245digital multimeter is suitable for this job.3. Measuring the voltage drop across a resistor by means of a VOMor battery-operated AC voltmeter. The “limit” indication is 0.75V, so analog meters must have an accurate low-voltage scale. The Simpson 250 and Sanwa SH-63Trd are examples of a pas-sive VOM that is suitable. Nearly all battery operated digitalmultimeters that have a 2V AC range are suitable. (See Fig. A)Fig. A. Therefore, rotate the tracking force scalering until “0” is aligned to the index line.Restrain the counterweight with your other hand sothat it does not rotate along with the scale ring.0Index line8When you use the supplied cartridge, turn thecounterweight counterclockwise one full rotation, and then continue turning it until the index linecomes to 1. Since one full rotation of thecounterweight yields a tracking force of 3 grams, this adjustment results in a tracking force of4 grams, which is the normal requirement for thesupplied cartridge. You can set a tracking force of 3 to 7 grams.1When optionally available cartridge is usedThe tracking force scale ring is marked in 0.1-gramunits. One full rotation yields a tracking force of3 grams.9Set ANTI-SKATING to the same value as thetracking force scale ring. The numbers on the ANTI-SKATING dial indicatethe number of grams in tracking force.Turn this ring so that the“0“ lines up with the indexline.Turn the counterweightcounterclockwise one fullrotation, and then a littlemore until the index lineis aligned to 1.55SECTION 2DIAGRAMSNote on Printed Wiring Board: X : parts extracted from the component side.
