Ifthe user want to operate this receiveron theQSO basis, set upthereceiver and model TX-599fora combined transmitter-receiver operation. Then, set the BAND switches and main tuningdialonthe receiver for the riominal transmitting frequencyofa desiredpartner stationwiththeRIT switch placed in position O.Tunethe receivertothe actual transmitting frequencyofthepartnerstation and proceed totheQSO operation. Ifthe receiving frequency shifts during the QSOoperation, re-tune the receiver to the currentreceiving frequency by turning theRIT controltoandfro, insteadofmanipulating the main tuning dial.Otherwise, the transmitting frequencyofthe local station will be shifted. (5)PRESELECTOR (RFAmplifierTuningcontroll The PRESELECTOR switchisthe tuning controlfortheRFamplifier stageofthis receiver. This control should be adjusted until thereceiver provides the maximum sensitivity. (6) SQUELCH (Squelch Control) TheSQUELCH control serves as the ON- OFFcontrol forboththe squelch and RIT operations.Thatis, turning this control clock- wisefromtheOFFpositionintensitythe squelch control to theIFoutputuntil the audio frequency circuitisdisabled for regenera- tionoftheincoming signal. While, pulling theknobofthiscontrolout ofits normal position turns the RIT switch off. (7)(8)VFOSELECT -SELECTIVITY(Composite VFOand Selectivity Selector Switch) TheVFO SELECT - SELECTIVITY con- trolisa composite switch consistingofa VFO and selectivity selector switches. TheVFOSELECT switch, a 4-position rotaryswitch forming theupperknobofthe VFO SELECT-SELECTIVITY switch, provides meanstoselect adesiredVFOunderthe combinedtransmitter-receiveroperationof modelsJR-599and TX-599.Normally, this switch should bekeptin the NORM position. 11 TheSELECTIVITY switch, a 5-position rotaryswitch forming the lowerknobofthe VFO SELECT-SENSITIVITY switch, provides meanstoselect anadequateIFbanddepending onthetypeofemission for the signalunder receptionoftheconditionofradiointer- ference.Inotherwords, this switch should be placedata position for which the speaker deliversthesoundoutputwhichismost easyto hear. (9) (10)AFGAIN-RFATT(CompositeAFGain- RFAttenuatorSelector Switch) TheAF GAIN -RFATT controlisa composite switch consistingofanAFGAIN control and anRFATT switch. TheAF GAIN control, a control forming theupperknoboftheAFGAIN -RFATT switch, isthevolume control for the speaker output.Turning thiscontrolclockwisein- creases the volumeofspeakeroutput. TheRFATT switch, a 4-positionrotary switchformingthelowerknobofthe AF GAIN -RFATTswitch, provides means to insert a resistanceattenuatorof60dBat20dB step in theinputcircuitoftheRFamplifier stage.Usingthis switch, therefore, model JR-599may be usedtomake measurentofa field intensity. (11)PHONES (Phone Jack) ThePHONESjackisprovided for connec- tionofa headphoneplug. (12)FUNCTION (Function Selector Switch) TheFUNCTION switch, a 6-positionrotary switch, provides meanstoplace model JR-599 undera desired functional condition such as a stand-byoperation,monitor,sJow and fast responses and calibration, as obtained by turn- ing the switch in the STABY, MONI, SLOW, FAST, 100 kHz and25kHz positions respec- tively. (13)MODE (Receiver Mode Selector Switch) TheMODEswitch,a 6-positionrotary switch, provides means to select an adequate modeofthe receiver operation depending on thetypeofemissionofthe signaltobe received. t (a)CW(ContinuousWave) SwitchpositionCWisprovidedto operatethereceiveronanincomingcon- tinuouswave forreceptionoftheMorse telegraphcodes.
