INSTRUCTION MANUAT FL-21o,o.z. mus$t c0., trD. c P.o. Box 1500 OKYO, JAPAN YAISU C YAESU FL-2 IOOZ LINEAR AMPLIFIER The FL-21002 is high peribrmance linear amplifier designed for all Yaesu HF SSB transceivef. This amplifier uses two 5728/T160 transnitting triodes in a Class AB, grounded-grid configuration. Operation on the 160 through l0 meter bands is provided. Two quiet internal fans provide lorced air cooling lbr the final tubes. An intemal change- over circuit biases the tubes to cutoff duing receive operation, thereby eliminating unnecessary heat and diode noise generation. A unique safety iature incorporated in the design of the FL-21002 is a momentry bias delay circuit, which protects the tank circuitry from damage by delaying the activation of the final tubes until the T/R relay is firmly seated. An internl relay connects the antenna directly through to the exciter dudng standby operation, or wllen the amplifier is tumed off. A built-in SWR meter is also included, for monjtoring of the feedline SWR during eitller ampliier or exciter only operation. The power supply lor the FL-21002 is built in. lt requires no warnup time, and its healy-duty construction provides excellent regulation. We recommend that you red this manual in its entirety before commencing opeation. Opemtion of the FL-21002 is extremely straightforward, but improper adjustment ol the controls and switches could cause reduced power output or damage to the amplifier components. With proper care, tlle FL-21002 will provide nAny yean of reliable operation- I SPECIFICATIONS Plate input power: Power equirements: 1200 watts PEP SSB, 1000 watts CW,400 AC 100/110/117/20012201234 volts, 50160 wattsAM/FM/FSK Hz l I Plat voltage Curent consumption: j 2400 VDC (no load) AC 100 117 volts: 18 amps I Circuit type: Class AB, grounded g d Frcquency coveage : 160-10 meter amateur bands Drive requirements: 100 watts PEP for full output Input impedance: 50 ohms, unbalanced Output impedanc: 50-75 ohms, unbalanced 3rd ode distortion poducts: -31 dB or better I Kw PEP Tube complement: 2 x 5728f1160 Cooling system: Forced air AC 200 234 volts: 9 amps Dimensions: 157(H) x 345(W) x 326(D) mm Weight: Apprcximately 20 kg f , Specifications subject to change without notice or obligation. The LC input to the transceiver should be connected to thc FL-21 002 ALC jack. The make- on-transmit contact ol the relay uscd ior T-R switching must be connected to thc FL-21002 RY jack, with a common lead (to the outer contect of RCAjack). Use a short length of RG-s8A/U or RC8A/U coax cable ibr the intcrconnection between the trans- ceiver ANT jack arld the FL,2l00Z RF IN jack. For Ihe output lead frorn the FL-21002 RF OUT jack, do not use Ure small RG-ssA/U type of cable, as its power rating is insufficient ibr the power level produced by the FL-21002. The transceiver used to excite ihe FL-21002. should be cepable ofproducing 100 watts PEP SSB outpui Ior full output iiom the amplifier. POWER CONNECTIONS The FL-21002 includes a builFin power supply capable of operation from AC 100/ll0/ll71200/ 220/234 volts. 50/60 Hz. Betbre connecting the amplilier power cord to the AC supply meins, be absolutely certain that the voltage specification ma.kecl on the rear apron of the amplilier matches your local supply voltage. Refer to the power transforrner pdmary connection diagram when changing voliages. It is essential that a fuse of the proper rating be used with this equipment. For AC 100/110/117 volts, use only a 20 amp fuse. For AC 200/220/ 234 volts, use only a 15 amp fuse. WARNING PERMANENT DAMAGE WILL RESULT IF IMPROPER AC SUPPLY VOLTAGE IS AP. PLIED TO THIS EQUIPMENT. OUR WAR RANTY DOES NOT COVER DAMAGE CAUSEI BY IMPROPER SUPPLY VOLTAG OR USE OF AN IMPROPER FUSE. If at all possible. the FL-21002 should bc operated iiom an independent 220-volt AC line_ The line should be fused for 10 amperes, and no other equipment should be run off the same circuit. lf a I 17-volt circuit is a1l that is vilable, it should be fused ibr 20 amperes, and circuit conductors should be no smaller than #10 AWG. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the FL-21002 be operated from a I I ?-volt house lighting circuit, as the cifcuit condLrctors may not be large enough to c.lrry this curent load- ANTENNA REQUIREMENTS The FL-21002 has been designed for use with an antenna presenting a 50 to ?5-ohm rcsistive load to the RF OUT jack. Wren using n antenna present- ing an impedance which is far from this figure, use an antenna natching network in oroer ro bring the antenna system impedance within the operating range of this ampliler. Fully counierclockwise to number 0- The FL-21002 employs two 5728/T160 zero bias triodes in class AB, grounded-gid configuration. RF d ving power from the exciter is applied through antenna changeover relay RL, and an input matching network to the filaments. The broadband input pi networks requirc no tuning to present the correct impedance match to the tubes and 50 ohms to the exciter. A sample of the exciter RF is taken from the filaments through Cr! to ALC rectifier diodes Dr (151007) and D, (10D10). Trimmer capacitor TCr then serves as a voltage divider in conjunction with Cr, for adjusting the level of ALC voltage provided for the exciter at J3 . CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION Table I The grid bias is set by Ra. When antenna rclays RL, and RL, are activated (to transmit), Cao6 dischalges through R3oa. The values of these components are selected so as to delay activation of bias relay RLor long enougl to ensure that the RLr and RL, are fully closed- This protective featurc prevents a momentary open circuit ai the ampliier output which might otherwise occur due to rclay tmvel time. while the amplifier is set to standby, switch Sa is open and the tubes are biased to cut-off. The plates of the amplifier tubes are connected through an adjustable pi network of the RF OUT jack, and the output is sampled for dircctional relative power measurement by a bridge circuit, for rclative power and SWR indications on the mete. ) BAND FREQ (MrL) PALTELOADING 160 1.8It 2.097 80 3.5lI 4.063.5 40 7.O 3.51.5 7.552.5 30 10.052 10.55.52.5 20 14.0 7 3 14.5 1.5 3.5 l7 18.05.5). 18.562.5 15 21.O8 )t.54 t2 24.573 25.O 7.5 3.5 l0 28.09 29.7l04.5 - 8 MAINTENANCE WRNING LETHAL VOLTAGES ARE PRESNT WITHIN THE CABINET OF THIS EQUIPMENT.
