Aftertheinstrumentisunpacked,theinstrumentshouldbecarefully inspectedfordamagereceivedintransit.Ifanyshippingdamageisfound,follow theprocedureoutlinedintheIlClaimforDamageInShipmentpageatthebackof thisinstructionbook. ControlsandTerminals INPUT-ThebIndingpostsmarkedINPUTandGareinputterminalsof theinstrument.Anexternalsinewavewhichistobesquareisfedintothein- strumentthroughtheseterminals.ThecontrolmarkedINPUTisusedtocontrol theamplitudeoftheinputvoltage.ThIScontroliscalibratedfrom0to100in arbitraryunits. OSC.D601,-Thistoggleswitchisprovidedsothatanexternalvoltageor a60cyclesvolagefromasecondaryofthepowertransformer,maybesupplied totheinputoftheinstrument.WhentheswitchisintheOSC.positiontheex- ternalvoltageISused.Inthe601,positionthevoltagetakenfromthepowertrans- formerisused.TheINPUTcontroldoesnotcontroltheamplitudeoftheinternal voltage. OFFDON-Thistoggleswitchcontrolsthepowersuppliedtotheinstrument fromthepowerline.WhentheswitchisintheONposition,theindicatorinthe enteroftheontrolpanelislighed. -2- . o DB-Theattenuatorisusedtoreduceanestablishedoutputvoltagebyany number-otdecibelsupto70db.Theinternalimpedanceremainsconstantregard- lessofthesettingoftheattenuator. Output-Thisgroupofthreebindingpostsaretheoutputterminalsofthe instrument.ThebindingpostmarkedGisconnectedtothechassiswhiletheother twobindingpostsareconnectedtotheattenuator. Fuse-Thefuseislocatedinafuseblocknexttothepowercableonthe undersideofthechassis.Removethebottomplatetogainaccesstothefuse. Operation Theprocedureforoperatingthisinstrumentisasfollows: 1.TurnthepowerswitchtoON.ConnecttheOUTPUTterminalsto theequipmentundertest. 2.Ifa60squarewaveisdesired,settheOSC.-60toggleswitch tothe60position. 3.SetthetoggleswitchtotheOSC.positionandapplyasinewave voltageofthedesiredfrequencytotheINPUTterminalsifasquarewaveother thanthefrequencyofthepowerlineisdesired. CAUTION ThemaximumvoltageappliedtotheINPUTterminalsmustnotexceed 200voltsRMS. 4.Iftheinputvoltagedoesnotexceedapproximately25volts,the INPUTcontrolshouldbesetat100.Thiscontrolmaybeusedtoreducethe inputvoltagewhenvoltagesabove25voltsareencountered. Whenbalancedoutputisdesired,thebalancebetweenthetwosidesof theoutputcircuitcanbemeasuredwithavoltmeter.ConnectaDCvoltmeter betweenthetwoOUTPUTterminalsandmeasurethevoltage.Avoltage betweentheterminalsofnotmorethan3voltsrepresentsasatisfactory balance. Theoutputcircuitmaybeusedforsingleendedoperationbyconnecting theequipmentbeingdrivenbetweentheground(G)terminalandeitherofthe otherOUTPUTterminals.Itisnecessarytouseacouplingcapacitorand gridresistorbetweentheoutputoftheModel2l0Aandthegridofthetube beingdrivenwhentheoutputcircuitisconnectedforsingleendedoperation. TubesVIandV2amplifyandclipthepeaksofthesinewaveapplied totheinputterminalsoftheinstrument.TubeV3servesasaphasein- verterwhichfeedsthepartiallysquaredwavetothetwosectionsofthe directcoupledamplifierconsistingoftubesV4,V5,V6,V7.Thetwo outputtubesV5andV7feedintotheoutputattenuatorwhichcontrolsthe amplitudeofthesquarewaveobtainedattheoutputterminals. Twopowersuppliesareprovidedtomeettherequirementsofthe directcoupledamplifier. Maintenance CoverandBottomPlateRemoval- Thecoverisremovedbyunscrewingthefourscrewswhichfasten thecovertothebackoftheinstrumentandslidingthecovertowardtherear oftheinstrument. Thebottomplateisremovedbyunscrewingthefourscrews,onein eachcornerofthebottomplate,whichfastentheplatetothechassis. TubeReplacement-= WhenreplacingtubeV5and/orV7.theoutputshouldbecheckedto seethatthereplacementtubehasnotcausedexcessiveunbalance.Itmay benecessarytotryseveraltubesbeforeasatisfactorytubeisfound.
